Like traditional schools run by DC Public Schools, charters are public, tuition-free and open to all. Both traditional and charters are committed to quality education. Where they differ is that traditional schools are run by a central authority – the Chancellor of DC Public Schools. In contrast, charters are run by non-profits, under agreements approved by the DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB).
